APS User Agreement

In order to work at APS, your institution must first have a User Agreement in place with APS.

Beamtime Requests

SER-CAT schedules beamtime for an entire run, and releases the schedule a few weeks before the run begins.

ESAF_form
Experimental Safety Approval Forms (ESAFs)

A fully-approved ESAF is required before you may begin working on either of the beamlines. Submit early.

Institutional run-wide ESAFs are now required for all SER-CAT Users.

Hazardous Materials

Hazardous Materials include:

  • solid propane popsicles or liquid propane,
  • shipping a liquid nitrogen dewar filled with liquid nitrogen,
  • heavy atom soaks.

Pins, Bases and Pucks

Particular pin bases and pin lengths are required for working at SER-CAT. Suggested vendors and part numbers are included in the "More" section, below.

In addition, we suggest a few tips and pointers which can make life easier for everyone.

Shipping Dewars

Use correct address, and present-day staff member's name, when shipping dewar. Both FedEx and UPS deliver.

Label container clearly as designated for: present-day staff member, SER-CAT, sector 22, building 436B.

Required Training

If you are using the beamlines remotely, then only ESH223 will be required; training needs to be updated annually.

If you are going to be on-site, then a few more courses will apply.

If you are conducting your experiment on-site, interactive training is required with your host, including:

  • use of the beamlines
  • searching/securing D-hutch
  • tour of facilities.
